At 1066 LGBT, our core activities are designed to strengthen and uplift the LGBTQ+ community across 1066 Country . We host regular social events that foster connection and celebration, provide wellbeing support tailored to LGBTQ+ needs, and lead campaigns and advocacy efforts to promote equality, visibility, and lasting change. Through these key areas, we aim to build a more inclusive, empowered, and united community.

Health and Wellbeing Support

We focus on supporting the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ adults. We work to improve physical, mental, and social wellbeing through a range of responsive and inclusive services tailored to the diverse needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Our work includes providing safe spaces for peer support, delivering mental health support, and creating opportunities for individuals to connect, share experiences, and build resilience.
We also collaborate with mainstream health and social care providers to help make their services more inclusive and accessible, ensuring that LGBTQ+ people are treated with dignity, respect, and understanding. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, we strive to reduce health inequalities and promote a Scotland where every LGBTQ+ person can thrive.

LGBT Social Events. Building Connection and Community

At 1066 LGBT, we believe that connection is the foundation of a thriving community. Our social events are designed to bring LGBTQ+ people together in safe, welcoming spaces where everyone can feel seen, heard, and valued.
Whether it’s a relaxed coffee morning, a lively quiz night, or a seasonal celebration, our events offer opportunities to meet new people, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships. These gatherings help break down isolation and loneliness, especially for those who may feel disconnected or live in more rural parts of 1066 Country.
We also encourage peer-to-peer support, recognising the power of shared understanding and lived experience. Through conversation, laughter, and solidarity, our socials help foster a sense of belonging and emotional wellbeing.
By coming together, we’re not just attending events, we’re building a stronger, more connected LGBTQ+ community.

Campaigning and Advocacy

At 1066 LGBT, we’re passionate about driving meaningful change for LGBTQ+ people across the whole of 1066 Country. Our campaigning and advocacy work focuses on promoting equality, increasing visibility, and challenging discrimination wherever it exists.
We actively engage with local authorities, health services, and community organisations to ensure LGBTQ+ voices are heard and represented in decision-making. Through awareness campaigns, public consultations, and collaborative partnerships, we work to make our communities safer, more inclusive, and more informed.
Whether it's influencing policy, educating the public, or standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, our advocacy efforts are rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to live with dignity, respect, and pride.

Challenging Hate Crime

At 1066 LGBT, we take a firm stand against hate crime and work tirelessly to ensure LGBTQ+ individuals feel safe, supported, and heard. We’ve built strong, trusted relationships with Sussex Police, including direct access to senior officers, allowing us to raise concerns and advocate for meaningful change at the highest levels.
We actively challenge the low resolution rate of hate crimes in the Sussex area, campaigning for improved reporting, investigation, and accountability. Through ongoing dialogue, community engagement, and public pressure, we’re working to ensure that hate crimes are taken seriously and that justice is served.
Together, we’re pushing for a system that protects LGBTQ+ lives and reflects the values of equality, dignity, and respect.
